He thinks that he’s stronger than everyone. He thinks that he’s smarter than everyone. He thinks that he’s controlling the life of a person by determining they live or die.
They were only supposed to have a professional relationship, but FBI agent Kyle McKenzie has been fantasizing about his sexy partner, Cadence Hollow, from the moment they first met. It takes the darkest case of their careers to finally bring their hidden desire bubbling to the surface. Once they’re in each other’s arms, though, they swear that nothing short of death will part them. The Night Hunter—a cunning stalker whose four-state, fifteen-year abduction spree began in Paradox, Alabama, with Kyle’s sister—may be only too happy to oblige.
In the small town, Kyle must confront the painful past he’s been hiding from Cadence. Kyle vows to put the Hunter behind bars…or in the ground. But the one thing that obsesses Kyle more than his sister’s grim fate—his furious love for Cadence—is the weapon the Hunter will use to lure his pursuers into the mouth of a murderous trap.
Wow! This is amazing.
Kyle is the partner with Cadence in the FBI. She’s also a profiler who have high success rate in locating the perp or profiling the perp. Kyle received a call from the police captain from his past. He told her that a woman is found missing and her car is found in the middle of the road. A similar scenario like Kyle’s missing sister. His sister had gone missing for fifteen years and he’s determined to bring her home.
Cadence knew about Kyle’s past but she hoped that she’ll be able to help him since the missing woman’s scenario is eerily similar to Kyle’s sister case. As they dug further and deeper, they find something dark going on around them.
They cannot trust anyone from the local cos they know that this person had infiltrate himself in the investigations. But will they be on time to save or they’ll be too late?
The author managed to keep surprising me with the new updates and new clues every time we turn a new page.
She’s the obsession two men share: one wants her love, the other wants her life.
A shared passion for justice first brought Baton Rouge district attorney Lauren Chandler and US Marshal Anthony Ross together—when each played their part in bringing down the infamous Bayou Butcher. The sparks flying between the two made it clear they weren’t just a legal dream team. Then desire had to make way for duty, and what they had was done. But it would never be over.
Five years later, it’s none other than the Butcher who gets things started again when his shocking jailbreak reunites the lawyer and the lawman…and reignites their love. But this time, the pair is in danger of being permanently parted—by a killer with revenge on his mind, and Lauren on the top of his list. As a new wave of terror sweeps through the streets and swamps of Baton Rouge, one man will pit his boundless passion against another’s relentless hate, for the life of the woman who obsesses them both.
This is bloodthirsty and totally caught off guard!
Lauren is a district attorney who helps to put a serial killer, ‘Bayou Butcher’, to jail for murdering and cutting women up. Is that the end? Nope. The ‘Bayou Butcher’ managed to escape from the prison by murdering a guard and a doctor. He’s coming. Coming for the people who helped put him in jail. US Marshal Anthony is assigned to track ‘Bayou Butcher’ down. And then he’s afraid for Lauren. They share a past together but their parting wasn’t amicable.
I like how this story goes. It kept me in suspense since when there’s something came up while they’re hunting and investigating the kills at the same time.
She thought her fiancé was the perfect man—until he turned out to be the perfect killer…
Katherine Cole is running for her life, desperate to escape the Valentine Killer—so-called because he stabs his victims through the heart and leaves them holding a telltale single red rose. Still he tracks her to New Orleans and begins carving a bloody path to her door. But this time, Katherine refuses to run any farther. This time, she’ll do anything to stop the madman she once loved, even trust the sexy cop promising to keep her safe…
Detective Dane Black never lets his emotions interfere with his job, even as the Valentine Killer surfaces in New Orleans to stalk his prey. But when Dane agrees to protect the killer’s ex-fiancée, Katherine Cole, he can’t ignore the passion kindling between them. After a single unforgettable night binds them body and soul, Dane knows he won’t rest until Katherine is safe in his arms—and the Valentine Killer is dead.
You thought that you know the person that you’re marrying but unfortunately no. You come back home one day and found your fiance is cutting a woman in the basement of your house and he escaped before the police can capture him. You’re given a new life and identity since the place you are staying is exposed to the media and many people wants your blood since you are the fiancee of a serial killer.
Three years later, after having a normal life for some time, a body is discovered and the M.O. is exactly the same as Valentine, the killer. He’s back, isn’t he?
There are some misguided scenes in the book that you will feel ridiculous. I am not a prude but I hated it when the main characters jumped into bed with each other that fast. Especially when the woman claimed that she didn’t like people to touch her. And she’s attracted to this Detective when she saw him. So if you ignore all these, the plot is interesting enough to keep you going cos you just want to know what will happen to the killer.
Four college students believed they were making a statement. They were activists, fighting to preserve the environment by burning down a new apartment complex. But they didn’t realize that someone was watching. A blackmailer hides in plain sight, using people’s secrets for personal gain, and when this criminal sets his sights on the four young arsonists, he begins his most deadly game yet.
Firefighter David Hunter is devastated when he’s too late to save a teenage girl from a Minneapolis fire. Authorities soon discover that it was a case of arson and homicide detective Olivia Sutherland and her partner Kane are assigned to the case. David and Olivia shared a night of passion some time ago, and sparks fly when they are drawn to one another again. But just as they begin to revisit that fateful night and address the events that tore them apart, David and Olivia are forced to pursue the blackmailer, whose horrific plans threaten to destroy those closest to them.
Prepared some tissue while reading this book, you’ll need it cos I need it. There’re some scenes in there very sad and heartbreaking to read.
The story starts out kind of slow but intriguing to nudge you keep going. Olivia is a homicide detective who received a call required her to go to a scene where there are dead bodies found. A dead girl is found in a building that’s on fire. And another dead body who’s being shot in the heart. This is not a normal arson case. This is a homicide.
Then Olivia and her partner received another call that another building is burnt and there’s a dead man in there. He’s already dead when the fire started. So who’s killing these people?
It’s very early to know the “WHO”. But it’s the “WHY” I don’t know. Karen Rose always have a way to keep her book interesting and suspenseful that you won’t know what’s coming.
Kill for Me is the final of Daniel Vartanian series. And this is the final showdown which cannot be missed!
Five teenage girls have been murdered. One survived, and only she can reveal the secrets of a disturbing ring of people who kidnap and sell teenage girls on the black market. But those responsible for the crimes will do whatever it takes to maintain her silence.
Susannah Vartanian and Luke Papadopoulos have both sworn to stop the murderers for their own reasons. Susannah, the sister of the hero in SCREAM FOR ME, suffers from a mysterious past that is connected to the sinister black market. Luke is an investigative agent and a computer expert who refuses to let another child predator get away.
Susannah and Luke are instantly attracted to each other, but their troubled pasts prevent them from immediately acting upon their feelings. The case will lead them to the shady realm of Internet chat rooms, where anyone can mask their identity. As Susannah and Luke draw closer to the criminals, they discover a chain of deception so intricate they don’t know who to trust. Susannah and Luke find comfort in one another’s arms, but the killers are ruthless and determined, and will take extreme measures to insure their anonymity and keep their business intact.
Remember the unfinished case that we have after ‘Scream for Me’? It seems that the terror started long ago. Someone behind the scene had been pulling the puppet strings and controlling everyone. But who? It’s very disturbing when we learned the truth. Of cos, the identity of the mastermind is very obvious but the questions are ‘Who is Rocky and Bobby?’ Why Bobby hated Susannah so much that he wanted her dead?? Who is Rocky and why is he so afraid of Bobby?
In this book, we also finally learned the truth behind Susannah’s dark secrets and past that she kept from Daniel. Do I blame her for reacting towards her big brother? Nope. If we base on the past she endured.
It’s always nice to read the Playboy had fallen when Luke had fallen for Susannah. It’s interesting to read the two tango around each other.
Eve Wilson’s face was once scarred by a vicious assault. Terrified and ashamed, she escaped to the online realm, where she could choose the face she allowed people to see. Years later, her outer scars faded and inner scars buried, Eve has fought her way back to the real world and is determined to help others do the same. Now a graduate student moonlighting as a bartender, Eve researches the addictive powers of online communities. When her test subjects begin turning up dead as a result of apparent suicides, she doesn’t know where to turn.
Homicide detective Noah Webster is one of the few people who believe the victims are connected murders. Eve becomes Noah’s online guide and realizes that the handsome detective may have secret scars as painful as her own. As Eve and Noah chase a killer who is always one step ahead of them, together they try to overcome the tragedies of their pasts and learn to trust again, but they soon discover that danger is much closer than they think.
This book is not as exciting as the previous works that I’ve read by Karen Rose yet intriguing enough to have me read throughout the night.
Eve is a survivor. She survives when she’s viciously attacked and left to die. She survive another attack when a crazy woman wanted to kill. Now, she’s standing tall and pursuing her studies while working as a bartender. The place that she works at is a place where most police hang around. But the one who always attracted her attention is the one who doesn’t really speak much, Noah.
Noah himself had some dark secrets that he kept to himself and he knows that Eve had gone through some terrible ordeals but he doesn’t want to add on her baggage. He thought that leaving her alone is the best policy when a case brought the both of them together.
Eve’s project is a case study. But she realized that her ‘subject’ went missing and she ‘accidentally’ hacks into the system when she realized that her ‘subject’ is dead. She thought that this might be coincident when one of her ‘subject’ had turn up dead too.
It’s like binge reading of Karen Rose’s work. And I just couldn’t put the books down!
Remember ‘Die for Me’? The previous book where we finally brought the notorious killer down? But there’s still some mysteries left after his death when his brother, Special Agent Daniel Vartanian, found some disturbing pictures his mother left for him. What he didn’t expect to know was that he’s coming face to face with one of the familiar faces in the pictures his brother draw before his death.
Special Agent Daniel Vartanian has sworn to find the perpetrator of multiple killings that mimic a 13-year-old murder linked to a collection of photographs that belonged to his brother, Simon, the ruthless serial killer who met his demise in DIE FOR ME. Daniel is certain that someone even more depraved than his brother committed these crimes, and he’s determined to bring the current murderer to justice and solve the mysterious crime from years ago.
With only a handful of images as a lead, Daniel’s search will lead him back through the dark past of his own family, and into the realm of a mind more sinister than he could ever imagine. But his quest will also draw him to Alex Fallon, a beautiful nurse whose troubled past reflects his own. As Daniel becomes attached to Alex, he discovers that she is also the object of the obsessed murderer. Soon, he will not only be racing to discover the identity of this macabre criminal, but also to save the life of the woman he has begun to love.
Wow, Karen Rose pulled the books nicely together. From ‘Die for Me’ to ‘Scream for Me’. After reading the previous book, we are left with more questions about the killer’s pictures and what had he done. We might be concern about what really happen to Susannah and why she had become so withdrawn from her brother.
After reading this book, I felt sick and disgusted with the characters in it. There’s no remorse at all. And the best part is? They’re holding important positions in the community. When they realized that their secrets might be exposed, they’re doing anything they can to prevent it from happening.
Alex Fallon came back to Dutton after receiving a call from a social worker informing her that her stepsister is missing leaving her daughter with no one’s care. She is shocked to learn that her stepsister has a daughter she didn’t know about and she’s worried about her safety at the same time.
S.A. Daniel Vartanian is called to help with a murder investigation by a local sheriff who told him that there’s a similar murder that happens around here a decade ago. That’s when Alex Fallon came up to him in case that unidentified woman is her missing stepsister.
The story is fascinating and I just cannot put the book down since I want to solve the mystery with them. Who are the players in the book? There’s so many. And then the big boss still remain a mystery which will reveal in the next book.
I must admit, this book contains disturbing scenes and yet it blew me off with the plot.
COME TO ME
The first victim is found in a snow-covered Philadelphia field. Detective Vito Ciccotelli enlists the aid of archaeologist Sophie Johannsen to determine exactly what lies beneath the frozen ground. Despite years of unearthing things long buried, nothing can prepare Sophie for the matrix of graves dug with chilling precision. The victims buried there haunt her. But the empty graves terrify her-the killer isn’t done yet.
SCREAM FOR ME
He is cold and calculating, the master of a twisted game. Even with Vito and Sophie hot on his trail, he will not stop. One more empty grave must be filled, and one last scream must be heard-the scream of an archaeologist who is too close for comfort and too near to resist…
DIE FOR ME
First, it’s disturbing to learn that money can bring ugliness from a person. Especially when you know how wrong this person is or what this person had done.
In this book, we come across quite a number of such characters.
Detective Vito and his partner, Nick, are being called on a scene. Someone accidentally dug a body from the soil. But the body is being posed. Like a prayer. Afraid that they might chance upon a mass burial ground, they roped in archaeologist Sophie for help. And their worst nightmare is confirmed when they discovered so many more bodies buried at the ground. With each body posed differently.
Things got intense when they start to identify the victims.
I like the characters in the book except for the bad guys of course. The plot is good that I spent my time finishing it. I wouldn’t want to stop until the end.
What happens when you witness your sister being abducted in her bedroom when you’re ten years old? What happens when your parents pushed you away and forgot about existence and only calls when they remind you that you failed to bring your sister back home when you’re working as an FBI agent? This is the story of Special Agent Riley Lambert.
At age ten, Riley Lambert watched helplessly as her sister was abducted from her bedroom. Fifteen years later, she’s channeled the pain of her past into a career as an FBI profiler. Riley devotes her life to bringing violent criminals to justice…and secretly uses government resources to search for her sister, who was never found.
When Riley gets a call from the only man who’s ever swept her off her feet with a killer two-step and dangerous smile—ex-Navy SEAL Thayne Blackwood of Singing River, Wyoming—it stirs up dark memories. Thayne’s sister, Cheyenne, has been kidnapped. There are no leads, and the only witness is the victim’s Alzheimer’s-afflicted grandmother.
Desperate to find Cheyenne, Thayne needs Riley’s expertise. With time running short, they delve into dangerous small-town secrets while fighting against an increasingly ruthless adversary. But when her past and his present collide in a shocking revelation, can they overcome the secrets that have kept them apart?
Totally captivated by this book.
Riley Lambert work hard through her life after she witnesses her sister abduction. Her parents didn’t really bother about her. Riley work as a profiler in the FBI and her mother only calls her when she reminds her about her sister’s abduction anniversary. Other than that, her mother blames her for not saving her sister.
Navy SEAL Thayne Blackwood is called home when his father is sick and they want him to take over his father’s position for awhile as Deputy Sheriff. Thayne is helping out his father and have his weekly phone conversation with Riley for a year. They met when Riley went to Singing River to investigate a missing girl case that happens fifteen years ago.
Then Thayne calls Riley for help when his sister is being kidnapped.
I couldn’t piece everything together while reading the book. It’s until towards the end, I then have a rough idea what’s the plot really about. Very interesting and I have a good time reading it.
Melinda Leigh is one of my favorite authors so I’m kind of thrilled to read her new series.
After the devastating loss of her husband in Iraq, Morgan Dane returns to Scarlet Falls, seeking the comfort of her hometown. Now, surrounded by family, she’s finally found peace and a promising career opportunity—until her babysitter is killed and her neighbor asks her to defend his son, Nick, who stands accused of the murder.
Tessa was the ultimate girl next door, and the community is outraged by her death. But Morgan has known Nick for years and can’t believe he’s guilty, despite the damning evidence stacked against him. She asks her friend Lance Kruger, an ex-cop turned private eye, for help. Taking on the town, the police, and a zealous DA, Morgan and Lance plunge into the investigation, determined to find the real killer. But as they uncover secrets that rock the community, they become targets for the madman hiding in plain sight.
Just a short introduction to the characters. I have read about them when I read Scarlet Fall series by Melinda Leigh. There’s a short mention of Morgan and Lance in the book.
Morgan is living with her three daughters and her grandfather at his house after her husband’s death. She’s grieving and healing for two years. Her family is law enforcers. Her grandfather is a retired homicide detective, her dead father was a detective, her brother is in SWAP unit, her sister is a detective too. Morgan used to be a district attorney but she quit when her husband died. Now she’s moving on and ready to go back to work when she received news that her neighbor, Nick, is being arrested for the murder of her babysitter Tessa.
Lance is a police officer when he’s being shot on his leg by one of the perps during his days in the police force. Instead of taking the time to recover from the injury, he resigns the position. He took up a retired police officer’s offer and work as a private investigator.
With the town turning their backs against Nick and his father, Morgan happens to be the target too when she volunteer to defend Nick and help him to find the real murderer.
Just couldn’t stop reading after I start and it’s disturbing cos I cannot complete other work other than keep going on with the book. Luckily, I still managed with the audible version so it’s fine. I like the pace of the book. Not too rush and not too lengthy. Just nice. Waiting patiently for the next book to release.
This is my very first book by this author. I came across her book by chance as I’m looking for ‘new’ authors to read.
Most of us are creatures of habits. We will take the same train every day to commute, same route, same cabin and we might even meet the same people who’re doing the same thing too. In this scenario, Medical Examiner Doctor Lucy Trask is a creature of habit. She always goes out jogging in the morning the same time and the same route. It’s just another ordinary day for her when she’s out jogging until she saw a familiar figure slumping on the chess table at the park. She thought that her neighbor, an elderly man is sleeping there. Lucy walked towards the man and is in a shock when she saw the state that he’s in. He’s sitting there lifelessly, with no eyes on his face, his face is disfigured, and his fingers is missing.
Detective J.D. Fitzpatrick is a newly joined homicide detective. He used to be in Narcotics department but he wanted a change after something drastic happen in his life. He’s the Detective who’s in charge in this ‘bizarre’ murder case. When he saw Doctor Lucy Trask, he’s mesmerized by her. This is the second time he saw her and he couldn’t forget her. She gave people the impression that she’s boring but J.D. know that she’s the opposite.
Doctor Lucy Trask compose herself to look at the body when she realized that the man is not her neighbor. She’s relief yet shock to learn that someone had murdered a man and pose him to look like her elderly neighbor. Detective J.D. is alert that someone wants Doctor Lucy Trask to find this body. Who and why?
Baltimore City Homicide Detective J.D. Fitzpatrick has seen a lot of violence but nothing like the trail of tortured bodies that are turning up throughout the city. And now he’s starting to suspect that his medical examiner, Dr. Lucy Trask, may be shielding a dark secret that could connect her to this vicious killings and put her next on the killer’s hit list…
I enjoy the book even though it’s kind of gruesome and violent when I imagined the scenes. The book is kind of long but it doesn’t bore me. There are two stories going on at the same time but don’t worry about it.
The characters are likable and of cos, we will always have some assholes in the book.
